Mosquitoes are more than an outdoor nuisance, they are one of the world's most dangerous insects due to their ability to transmit disease. In Texas, mosquitoes are associated with West Nile Virus, and populations spike during warmer months and after rain events. Backyard mosquito pressure can make outdoor areas unusable during evening hours.
Why They're a Problem in Lubbock & West Texas
Lubbock's warm summers and occasional rain events create temporary standing water, the primary breeding ground for mosquitoes. Even small amounts of standing water in planters, gutters, low-lying areas, or yard debris can support large mosquito populations. Wind typically reduces activity in open areas, but sheltered yards and landscaped spaces see significant pressure.
Signs of Infestation
- Bites during outdoor activity, especially at dawn and dusk
- Buzzing near the ears in outdoor areas
- Visible mosquito activity around standing water, vegetation, or shaded areas
Mosquito reduction treatment is included in Tactical and Elite plans as part of the quarterly Expanded Yard Barrier service.
