What They Are
Scorpions are arachnids common throughout West Texas. While most scorpion stings cause localized pain and swelling, they can trigger serious reactions in children, the elderly, and anyone with allergies or sensitivities. Scorpions are nocturnal and excellent at hiding, they are often found inside shoes, under bedding, in closets, and along baseboards.
Why They're a Problem in Lubbock & West Texas
Lubbock and the surrounding area sit in prime scorpion territory. The Striped Bark Scorpion is the most common species in Texas and is regularly found in and around Lubbock homes. Scorpions enter through gaps in the foundation, utility penetrations, and even through drain pipes. They tend to be more active during summer months and after rain events.
Signs of Infestation
- Seeing scorpions at night, they glow under UV/black light
- Finding them in shoes, towels, or bedding
- Visible presence along the foundation or under debris in the yard
- Neighboring properties with reports of scorpion activity
Tactical and Elite plans include scorpion coverage as part of the quarterly Expanded Yard Barrier Protection service. Perimeter granules and exterior barrier treatment target the crawl paths scorpions use to enter the home. Quarterly service keeps the barrier fresh and disrupts the insect prey that draws scorpions in.
