What They Are
Most spiders in Lubbock are nuisance pests, they do not pose a health risk, but nobody wants them building webs inside or around their home. The problem is that Lubbock is also home to two genuinely dangerous species: the Black Widow and the Brown Recluse, both of which deliver venomous bites that can cause serious medical reactions.
Why They're a Problem in Lubbock & West Texas
West Texas's climate and terrain make it prime habitat for a wide range of spider species. House and wolf spiders are extremely common inside Lubbock homes, garages, and around exterior lighting. Black Widows favor dark, undisturbed areas, garages, sheds, exterior eaves, and debris piles. Brown Recluse spiders prefer dry, warm environments and are frequently found inside homes in clothing, boxes, and behind furniture.
Signs of Infestation
- Webs along eaves, window frames, corners, and exterior edges
- Spiders visible at night near outdoor lighting (they follow the insects that lights attract)
- Egg sacs, small papery or cottony balls, attached to surfaces
- Dark, irregular webs in undisturbed corners (Black Widow)
- Flat, irregular webs at ground level in dry areas (Brown Recluse)
Every SWAT Sweep and every quarterly visit includes de-webbing, removal of spider webs from eaves, windows, soffits, and exterior edges. Perimeter barrier treatment eliminates spiders on contact and reduces the insect prey that attracts them. Elite plan members also receive Black Widow and Brown Recluse dusting at every quarterly visit, targeting the specific harborage areas these venomous species prefer.
